Larkin Hoffman Attorneys Present Seminar at April NHRA Conference

Larkin Hoffman attorneys Mark R. Geier, Christopher J. Harristhal, Phyllis Karasov, and Mary Komornicka presented a full-day seminar Wednesday, April 22, for Northland Human Resource Association’s spring conference in Duluth, Minn. More than 80 HR professionals from across the upper Midwest gathered at the Inn on Lake Superior to attend the NHRA conference, entitled “Catch Employment Law Updates Before They Catch You.”

The speakers discussed legal issues that NHRA members identified as important to the regional human resources industry. “The NHRA officers did a great job organizing the event and selecting topics of immediate interest to those who attended,” Geier said. “We owe our thanks to the outgoing and current presidents of the NHRA, Judy Aspling of Charter NEX Films and Arik Forsman of Allete.”

Topics included drug and alcohol testing, potential discrimination claims under Title VII, protected concerted activities, the new NLRB representation election rules (the so-called “ambush” election rules) and how to prepare for them, the Minnesota Women’s Economic Security Act, the Wisconsin Freedom to Work Act, fitness for duty testing (for initial hiring and for employees returning to work), the Affordable Care Act, classifying and correcting ERISA plan errors, recent changes to the federal government’s affirmative action regulations, and retirement planning for employees.
