On August 13, 2022, the City of Bloomington held its second annual Bloomington Pride event on the east lawn of the Bloomington Civic Plaza with entertainment, food, arts, crafts and games. Larkin Hoffman was proud to be included as a community sponsor of the event and to support the LGBTQ+ community. A number of our attorneys and staff attended the event and engaged with attendees including firm friends, clients and Bloomington Mayor, Tim Busse. Today marks the start of the last weekend of campaigning before the state’s primary election on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 and rarely has Minnesota seen so many intra-party contests in a single year. In addition to three competitive congressional races, dozens of state legislative districts across Minnesota have yet to determine who will be on the ballot come the November general election. The once-every-decade redrawing of Minnesota’s electoral map has pit some incumbents against one another while a conservative grassroots organization called Action4Libery has sought to challenge a number of incumbent Republicans, particularly in greater Minnesota.

Mall of America Lease Appeal Heads to the U.S. Supreme Court
The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear the appeal of a case involving MOAC Mall Holdings LLC, the owner of Mall of America, involving a lease dispute with Transform Holdco LLC. The dispute arose when Sears Holdings Corporation, in its chapter 11 bankruptcy case, sought to assign its $10 per year Mall of America lease to Transform.

Minnesota Aurora is a women-led, community-owned pre-professional women’s soccer team that was founded last year by a group of nine community members including Matthew Bergeron. The group subsequently raised $1 million through a community ownership campaign and have sold out TCO Stadium for this evening’s home opener. The club is competing in the inaugural season of the W-League, a new women’s pre-professional nationwide league organized by the United Soccer League.
