Bill Griffith Recognized as a 2022 Notable Partner in Law

06/21/2022

Larkin Hoffman is pleased to congratulate William "Bill" Griffith on his selection by Twin Cities Business as a 2022 Notable Partner in Law.   The nominees were recognized for "their results-oriented legal work, pro bono efforts, and community involvement...Partners in Law candidates must have a minimum of seven years of experience in their field and have shown the ability to effect change in their roles or areas of practice" (Twin Cities Business).

Thirty-five years ago, Bill was recruited from the City of Bloomington to join Larkin Hoffman and work on the Mall of America project.  Since then, he has served as counsel on every new phase of the Mall of America project, including his current work on the waterpark, destined to be the largest in North America.  He is the past president of the firm and while at the helm, orchestrated the firm’s first move in 40 years to the Normandale Office Park.  A move that reinvigorated the firm.  He retooled operations, recruited new talented attorneys, and upgraded the firm’s information technology.   Bill also insisted that the firm accelerate its transition to a paperless firm.  In retrospect, it was a decision that proved insightful and enabled the firm to work seamlessly throughout the pandemic.

Away from the firm, Bill is an outstanding partner to the community.  He is a founding member of Bloomington’s sister city relationship with Izumi City, Japan; a founding member of Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota, a statewide support organization for affiliates building homes throughout Minnesota; and the founding chair of Hennepin Schools, a results-oriented charter school serving a diverse student body in south Minneapolis.  As past president of the firm, Bill also reached out to the deans of the three local law schools to improve diversity recruiting and supported the firm’s goal of building an inclusive firm culture.

Bill says he “learned from Bob Hoffman that our most important job, after serving our clients, is to train the next generation of lawyers to take on the challenges of a rapidly evolving legal marketplace”.

Bill Griffith advises local and national clients on legal and policy issues affecting land use, zoning, real estate, environmental review, municipal law, regulatory matters and government relations. He has been legal counsel to Mall of America in all its phases, and serves as city attorney for the city of Columbus. He is a trusted advisor on real estate development and public funding for both private clients and municipalities.
