Bryan explained recent developments and discussed potential legal challenges to rent control in the Twin Cities. The Real Estate Institute is Minnesota’s premier annual real estate conference. Bryan has previously presented to the Real Estate Institute on residential purchase agreement disputes and on the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act.

Larkin Hoffman and the Minnesota Surety Association co-host the annual Minnesota Surety Conference
Presenting at the conference were Larkin Hoffman shareholder Inga Kingland and attorney Maureen Lodoen who both discussed a 5-year saga in which Andrew Scollick, a relator, tried to hold sureties and agents liable under the civil False Claims Act for issuing performance bonds to a joint-venture contractor awarded (“SDVOSB”) service-disabled veteran-owned small business set-aside contracts. The attorneys discussed the relator's claim that the contractor group had fraudulently obtained and used the SDVOSB certification, and possible implication for surety professionals.

The Associated General Contractors of Minnesota invited Phyllis Karasov to moderate a March 21 webinar on Multi-Employer Payroll Audits. In addition to Phyllis, the other panelists were a fringe fund attorney and an accountant who performs multi-employer fringe fund audits. The discussion focused on changes in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants standards for financial audits of fringe funds which have resulted in expanded requests for information from employers and business owners.
