New Podcast Series! Black Women in Real Estate: Redefining the Landscape
It is with great pleasure that we announce the release of a new podcast series on The Larkin Hoffman Real Estate Podcast. For this series, Bill Griffith had the privilege of sitting down with three pioneering Black women working for the City of Bloomington, Minnesota. Women, and Black women in particular, have historically been excluded from the real estate profession causing their representation in the industry to be notably low. However, in Bloomington things are changing. In recent years the city added three women of color to its leadership team: Karla Henderson, Community Development Director; Aarica Coleman, Housing and Redevelopment Authority Administrator; and Faith Jackson, Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer.

Navigating Minnesota’s Paid Family and Medical Leave Law
On May 25, 2023, Governor Walz signed Minnesota’s Paid Family and Medical Leave bill into law. Minnesota will join 11 other states and Washington D.C. with paid leave laws. Eligible workers will be able to begin receiving benefits on January 1, 2026, and employers will begin contributing to the program on the same date.

The Minnesota legislature has passed a bill permitting recreational marijuana use by adults, making Minnesota the 23rd state to legalize cannabis. Governor Walz is expected to sign the bill, which establishes a complex regulatory framework for the newly legalized product. Among many other statutes, the new law contains a number of provisions that will affect employers doing business in Minnesota.
