01/09/2020

John Diehl received the 2019 Minnesota ICON award by Finance & Commerce and Minnesota Lawyer. This honor pays tribute to legal professionals who have proven themselves to be “titans of the boardroom and the courtroom.” All honorees are industry leaders whose commitment to their communities and mentoring the next generation has helped shaped the landscape of the legal profession.

John has had a long and distinguished career in the health care community. His innovative work in this practice area has also earned him the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Minnesota State Bar Health Law Section. John's groundbreaking achievements with the laws that established the format for a structured, vertically integrated healthcare system laid the foundation for the current system we see today and is still shaping the future of healthcare delivery. In 1975, John introduced the "assigned risk pool" concept that revolutionized health insurance by making affordable individual health insurance available to persons with preexisting conditions.

Giving back to the community has been essential to John throughout his illustrious career. His time in key leadership positions with the American Cancer Society, Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare and the Gillette Children's Hospital Foundation, Model Cities Health Center and Model Cities of St. Paul, and other arts, environmental protection, civic, professional, educational and political organizations has helped make John a leader in the boardroom and beyond.

Congratulations John.
