Perrus to Participate in USGBC Panel

11/15/2011

Julie Perrus will be a panelist for a half-day seminar hosted by USGBC-MN. The panel includes former Senator John Doll, Brian Halloran and J. Drake Hamilton. The seminar will also feature keynote speaker Don Shelby.

The USGBC-MN seminar is to teach the basics of how to be an effective citizen advocate for better buildings in Minnesota. The training will be led by past legislators and public policy experts with years of experience at the Capitol, and will include a keynote address by green building advocate Don Shelby, who is in the process of building his own LEED home. Attendees will learn the importance of citizen advocacy, the current state of green building public policy in Minnesota, and the role the USGBC plays. Activities will include information on how to communicate effectively with your legislators, tips on how to translate your knowledge of green building into a compelling story, fact sheets including the business case for green building--how green building has added jobs and spurred new businesses in Minnesota, a walking tour of the Capitol, and role-playing exercises simulating meetings with elected officials. Participants will leave this training with confidence to meet effectively with legislators to convey their knowledge about the links between green buildings and public policy.
