Three Questions with Heidi Bassett
Tell us about something that has shaped your career?
Adversity. We all face it in different forms, and it can wear us down before it makes us stronger. Each time I face a new challenge, I make the choice to persevere and I become a better, tougher lawyer. I chose my career path at a young age, but I stayed on this path by proving to myself that I could do it.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Winning. Whether a win comes as a court victory, an advantageous settlement, or a creative solution that helps my client avoid litigation, I keep my eye on the win. Clients who place their trust in me deserve my full effort, and helping them accomplish their goals is the most rewarding part of my work.
What advice do you have for someone new to the industry?
Question everything. When more experienced attorneys tell you what they think the law says, review the law yourself. When your instincts make you doubt your arguments, review the law again. Years of practice alone do not make one attorney better than another, but tenacity and preparation often do.
