On March 18, 2014, Mall of America broke ground on its new $325 million expansion project and held a commemorative groundbreaking ceremony to commence the official launch of construction efforts. When completed in August 2015, the expansion will include a JW Marriot Hotel, seven-story office tower, retail space for more than 50 new stores, a new atrium and event space, and underground parking.
The commencement of the expansion project was a symbolic moment for Mall of America and the entire state of Minnesota. The mall has become a “shining star” for the region and continues to break new ground with its innovative concepts. The nation’s largest shopping mall pioneered the model for uniting signature retail, hospitality and attractions. The new expansion will enhance the already unprecedented entertainment destination while continuing to cultivate economic growth for Minnesota.
“It’s very rewarding to see our client’s vision come to life after years of planning” commented Bill Griffith, president of Larkin Hoffman. “We are proud of our continued partnership with the Mall of America and feel honored to be part of this revolutionary project.”
Mr. Griffith serves as lead counsel to the Mall of America and has provided guidance on the expansion project since its inception. Larkin Hoffman’s real estate and land use team has steered the client through complex governmental approvals, land use and development matters, and numerous financing transactions.
