Minnesota’s Truth-in-Taxation (TnT) notice is meant to give property owners an early estimate of their upcoming tax bill. Shareholder Adam Pabarcus talked with Finance & Commerce to explain how commercial property taxes are driven by both assessed value and the tax rate and the importance of reviewing those notices. Once property owners receive the TnT form, they should move quickly. While tax rates cannot be appealed, owners who believe their commercial property was overvalued, misclassified, or taxed unfairly can petition in district court by April 30 for taxes payable the next year. Pabarcus also detailed the common red flags that signal an assessment might be too high.
