Litigator Chris Wehr presented about Minnesota Paid Leave at the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry’s annual Workers’ Compensation Summit.
Wehr discussed the intersection of Minnesota Paid Leave and workers’ compensation, with an emphasis on employer obligations and claim-handling considerations. He highlighted how Minnesota Paid Leave interacts with other available employee benefits, including workers’ compensation claims and benefit coordination.
The presentation explained that, while workers’ compensation remains the primary payor for wage loss, employees can “stack” Minnesota Paid Leave, PTO, wage continuation or other disability benefits to supplement their lost earnings. It also addressed an employer’s obligations when handling the coordination of benefits, what DEED expects from employers while employees are on leave, and how to handle common issues in disputed claims.
Wehr represents businesses of all sizes and industries in commercial, employment and general liability disputes. He counsels businesses and unions before disputes arise, with focuses on workplace investigations, discipline, employee benefits and work injuries. He prides himself in taking a client-focused approach to litigation by working closely with clients to develop practical strategies that keep their broader business goals in mind.
